Escape The Paper is developed by Paul Atkinson trading as Flying Penguins. The product grew from the needs of sole traders and side hustlers who wanted clearer personal and business spending without another subscription.
Why local-first
Financial data is unusually personal. Escape The Paper keeps budget files on your Mac, imports only the files you choose, and does not ask for a bank login. There is no developer account or cloud database required to understand where your money is going.
Why Mac-native
Built by developers who've used the Mac for two decades, native APIs and controls felt like the only choice. The app respects your preferences and aligns to intuitive macOS behaviours.
How the product is maintained
Escape The Paper is actively developed and distributed through the Mac App Store. Release notes are published in the changelog, and support questions go directly to the developer rather than a marketing or outsourced help desk.
